Winter boiler maintenance

Winter is a scary time when you know your boiler could be on the blink wondering if your going to have heating and hot water or not.

Top Tip

There is a trick that I would like to share with you all. One of the most common faults in the winter I come across is a frozen condense pipe. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it is the small pipe usually white that comes outside from behind your boiler. Water within that pipe can freeze causing it to block and stop the boiler from working.

Here is the solution, boil your kettle and poor the boiling water over the pipe causing it to defrost and allowing water to then flow normally.

If this is a recurring issue we can install a condense pro which will insulate the pipe rectifying the issue going forward.

Ways to improve heating efficiency

  • Bleed your radiators before winter to remove unwanted air in the system to ensure your radiators can work effectively.

  • Check your boiler pressure is between 1 - 1.5 bar if it is below top it up as this will keep your boiler running smoothly. This will in turn stop overheating and cutting out.
